2018 AACTA Award for Best Telefeature or Mini Series

ABC telemovie that dramatises the birth of the gay rights movement in Australia in the 1970s. Riot, which has been written by Greg Waters and directed by Jeffrey Walker, was filmed in Sydney. The cast includes Damon Herriman, Xavier Samuel, Kate Box and Jessica de Gouw. The ABC's head of scripted production Sally Riley says the project explores "the passionate individuals who were unwavering in their fight for decriminalisation, recognition and equality". The telemovie will air in 2018, to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1978 protest march that gave birth to the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney.
